Jason had woken up intending to have a nice, boring Sunday, but those plans had been set aside when he got a call from Bruce. He was going to have go to home in the next few weeks, and Bruce had a long list of things he wanted Jason to be ready for when he got back to Gotham. For now, that meant reading, so Jason was sprawled out on his bed, trying to absorb the information in front of him without falling asleep or skipping past the boring but necessary details to get to the good stuff.

After hanging out with Luke for a while, Nico decided to see if Jason knew about the wonders of chalky sugar heart candies. It was as good an excuse as any to show up uninvited out of the shadows.

Doors and knocking were for normal people. Though they might stop him from arriving only to frown at the bookworm. "Is this reading I shouldn't interrupt or have you been hoping for an excuse to stop?"

By now, Jason was almost used to Nico showing up in his room unannounced, so he only jumped a little before looking at Nico and laughing. "I shouldn't let you interrupt it, but I will anyway," he said, setting the papers aside. "What have you been up to?"

"Learning that I got the short end of the powers stick," he replied easily, going to see what papers he was interrupting. "If you need to keep nerding out, I can come back later."

"It's not nerd stuff, it's Robin stuff," Jason said. They were totally and completely separate things, thank you. "It can wait until later. What's wrong with your powers?"

"Oh nothing, but I can't snap my fingers and make there be food and beer and I think that'd be a cooler thing to do," Nico replied. "I'm always stopping you from doing work. I could maybe be quiet and hang out while you learn Robin stuff. What is Robin stuff?"

"Well, this stuff is what I'm missing in Gotham," Jason explained. "Just because I'm not there, it doesn't mean I shouldn't know what Batman's getting up to while I'm gone. Some of it's little stuff, small time guys breaking into places they shouldn't, but some of it's bigger, so I need to be looking for patterns and seeing if the small things are leading to anything big and...that really does sound kind of nerdy, doesn't it?"

"Yeah, but you're allowed to be a nerd," Nico said, amused by Jason's enthusiasm. "It's all in the name of wearing tiny underwear and fighting crime."

"And stopping guys like this from getting away with their crap," Jason said, setting the papers aside again. "That's the best part of the job." Not the tiny underwear, Nico.

"It's cool how into it all you get," Nico said, liking that he got to see Jason excited about his nerdy work. "You've obviously earned the candy I brought you." He produced a bag of conversation hearts from the jacket he probably didn't need to be wearing indoors but was.

"You brought me candy?" Jason asked, perking up. "Did I do something good? Besides be a nerd."

"No, I just thought you might like it," he said, wondering if he was supposed to be bringing candy when Jason did good things. "It's kind of chalky, but I swear you get used to it and then it's just an awesome kind of sugary film in your mouth."

"Hey, there's nothing wrong with sugar, even when it's chalky," Jason said, moving so there would be room for Nico on the bed.

"Exactly. Luke got me all addicted, so blame him if your teeth fall out or something." Nico figured he could take a seat on the bed, kicking off his shoes and tossing his jacket on top of them. "You been reading all day?"

"Not all day. Long enough that a candy distraction has been earned. I worked last night too," Jason said. "But that was more training."

"What kind of training?" Nico asked, ripping open the bag and offering it up to Jason. He didn't know if his night was worth getting into.

Jason took a handful of the candies and picked them one at a time out of his hand. "Went for a run. Did a little patrolling. Nothing too serious," he said. "Fandom's not exactly a hive of criminal activity. I can almost guarantee your night was less boring."

"It's possible, though now I'm sorry I didn't attempt to commit any crimes," Nico teased, leaning back and rummaging for a brown candy. "Just to give you something to deal with."

"You shouldn't give me fantasy material like that," Jason said with a smirk. "I'm not exactly gentle with the bad guys we catch."

"What, you wanna fight me?" Nico looked at Jason with a raised eyebrow. "Like hand-to-hand?"

"I was thinking more like a tackle and then tying you up," Jason said. "I've learned my lesson about trying to fight demigods."

"Well, I'd kind of expect you to be a little different with your criminals than with me," Nico replied. "But I don't have super fighting skills. I'm just probably stronger and faster."

"Stronger and faster makes a lot of difference. Half of what I'm able to pull off is because I'm faster than the idiots we fight," Jason said.

"So I'd have to take it easy on you?" It sounded so weird to Nico. He didn't think of himself as much more than taller than Jason.

"I assume so," Jason said. "I mean, I think it's probably safe to say you're stronger than me, but we'd have to really fight to find out."

"It'd be weird to try and hit you. Especially if I'm stronger. Just seems unfair." And he kind of liked, you know, hugging Jason. Not that he wanted to say that.
