Jason had woken up intending to have a nice, boring Sunday, but those plans had been set aside when he got a call from Bruce. He was going to have go to home in the next few weeks, and Bruce had a long list of things he wanted Jason to be ready for when he got back to Gotham. For now, that meant reading, so Jason was sprawled out on his bed, trying to absorb the information in front of him without falling asleep or skipping past the boring but necessary details to get to the good stuff.

"You're not a jerk to me. You never have been," Jason said, sighing softly and leaning against Nico, barely resisting the urge to put his head on Nico's shoulder. "It wasn't the candy. It was me thinking about you on dates with other people. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make things awkward."

Nico took the opportunity to drape his arm around Jason's shoulders and give his arm a squeeze. "No, it's okay. I wouldn't have realized you might want that sort of thing from me if you hadn't gotten annoyed. I mean, I did try asking you out before, it just didn't take, so I kinda of thought you only wanted the other stuff, you know?" What was it about Jason that made him so stupidly honest?

"I didn't think you wanted that sort of thing from me either," Jason said, looking up at Nico again. "When did you try asking me out before? Was I actually listening to you? How did I miss that?"

"Oh, like, way before anything ever happened," Nico admitted. "Back when we had a three minute date and maybe homecoming or that time you groped me in the laundry room. I don't remember really well." And he hadn't explicitly asked, he's sort of said it was something they should do and assumed that would work, sadly it had not.

"The laundry room was when I decided to show you my costume," Jason said, smiling as he remembered that. "I probably didn't realize you meant an actual date. I didn't even think you liked me that much then."

"I was attempting to keep it to myself," he shrugged, embarrassed. "But your costume was kinda too hot to even try to pretend I wasn't interested. That said, it might be my own fault we never talked about...dating." Why was it such a weird word?

"I never said anything about it either," Jason said, because yes, it was a weird word, and a weird idea too, that Nico would want that. "But I'd like to try a date. I mean, I'm up for just about anything with you."

"And again it's the blind leading the blind sort of deal," Nico told him. "Because I don't really know how any of this is supposed to work. But I don't want you thinking I want to be with anyone else, 'cause that would be stupid."

"I don't want to be with anyone else either," Jason admitted, trying to ignore the twisty feeling in his stomach that admitting that gave him. "The way I see it, if neither one of us knows much about dating, then neither one of us knows what to expect, right? So, maybe that's a good thing."

"Right!" Nico always had such a hard time understanding why he felt so weirdly warm with Jason and why he nearly felt ill with it tonight as if he'd just barely escaped a gorgon. "It doesn't have to be so different from hanging out, does it?"

"I don't think so? Except, there should probably be food involved. Like, a restaurant or something." As tempting as pizza on his bed was, it probably didn't count as a date unless they went outside.

"We should start small." To avoid serious social problems. "What about ice cream? I seem to remember you offering to show me how you like lots of cold things."

Jason perked up at that suggestion. "Have you been to the ice cream place here? It's really awesome." And unhealthy, but shhh. "We should definitely go there."

Nico shook his head, smiling at Jason's reaction to ice cream. "It's a plan. I like this idea, since our fighting thing probably wouldn't count."

"Probably not. Ice cream is a good way to start," Jason said with a nod. "I still want to see you fight though."

"Same, well, I guess the opposite is more accurate," he replied, reaching his far hand across himself to try and mess up Jason's hair. Something about touching him just made it easier to deal with all the weird emotions.

"Hey!" Jason said, swatting at Nico's hand. "Why do you insist on doing that? My hair isn't that much fun to mess up."

"Says you," Nico smirked, grabbing for Jason's attacking hand. "I like messing it up." Which explained why he did it every chance he got.

Jason tugged when Nico grabbed his hand, although it wasn't quite hard enough to pull away. "Why? It doesn't look good messed up," he insisted.

"You saying that doesn't make me wanna mess it up less," Nico informed him. "Besides, I like you messy."

Oh, how Jason blushed at the mental image that came with that statement. "You like me looking like I don't know how to use a comb?" he asked. He was pretty sure that wasn't what Nico meant, but he couldn't resist teasing.

Nico smirked, trying to thread his fingers together with Jason's. "Yep. Combs are overrated. Besides, it's not like you mind when I pull on it."

Yeah, that wasn't helping the blushing at all. "That's different. You're trying to get me to make noises when you do that." At least, he assumed.

"No I'm not," Nico told him, laughing just a little bit. "I just like it. Don't get me wrong, I like the noises and I do try for them, but your hair is...nice." He felt so twelve saying that.

Jason grinned at that, and leaned in to rub his head against Nico. "It's nice?" he asked, clearly not minding the twelveness. "No one's ever said that to me before."
